This Week!
This week’s focus is the DRIVE!
The drive is the part of the stroke between the catch and the release where the blade is secure in the water and the oar is pushing the boat ahead.
The aim of the drive is to move the boat in smooth manner while applying power with the legs. The drive begins with pushing with the legs as soon as the blade is buried. The back starts to pull as the hands come over the knees. There should be a smooth transition between legs/body/arms to ensure a strong straight pull through the water with no wavering. The blade should be at the same depth, through the drive, at which it would float, just buried under the water!
Check out our whiteboard at the back of Hatchets to see our Focus of the Week for tips and drills to perfect your drive!
