Introducing Our Team
Our coaches bring with them experience from various rowing clubs throughout Ontario. We track our rowers progress through our centralized coaching notes in order to ensure we are all up to date on your path and current goals; be they fitness, competition and/or pleasure. We provide you with as much space or coaching as you need to enjoy the serenity or improve your speed. Our passion is helping others with their passion, and only coaches who share this passion join our team.
All of our coaches can be booked for one-on-one personal coaching sessions, and they all help out with the various group sessions happening every morning during rowing season.
Interested in joining our coaching team? Come and meet us and see what we’re all about.
Kathy McCarthy
In, on and around the water since birth, Kathy started rowing in 1995 and coaching in 1999. Kathy practiced as an Engineer for just under 10 years while rowing and coaching in Peterborough, London and Barrie. She then decided to help others with their passions by following hers and started Hatchets Rowing Centre with Jeremy Fowler in the spring of 2009.
Jeremy Fowler
Water has long been one of Jeremy's passions. He has been on the water in any way possible since he was born, and started rowing in 1993 in St. Catharines. After rowing and coaching in St. Catharines, Thunder Bay, Barrie and Muskoka, he started Hatchets Rowing Centre with Kathy in the spring of 2009.
Graham Yates-Krull
Graham will be around a bit this summer, but has entered into the field of aeronautics - so won't have much time to coach!
Graham is from Ancaster and has spent his summers at his family cottage on Lake Rosseau. Graham has been rowing and coaching with us for 5 years, and he adds a lot of fun around the centre. He will push you to try new things and always seems to be able to figure out any problem. Whether it's rowing related, designing or figuring something out, or even if you just dropped your cell phone in the lake.
Lily Baker
This year Lily is working at a placement in New Brunswick and is away most of this summer, but if you're lucky you'll see her right near the end!
Lily has been rowing and coaching with us for TEN years! Lily is currently working her way through a double major in Engineering and Biomedicine, with one year left to go.
Positive and mindful, Lily is an excellent coach, great listener, good partner in any adventure and amazing problem solver. We hope you are lucky enough to have Lily coach you this summer!
Marlowe Spraggett
Entering her 9th year rowing with Hatchets, this is Marlowe's third summer coaching with us. Marlowe goes to school in Bracebridge and while she's not rowing, she has been working through her swimming leadership certifications during the year. We are excited to have Marlowe joining us again this summer and bringing with her a surprising amount of on water rowing experience for someone her age.
Molly Curd
Entering her 4th year rowing with Hatchets, this is Molly's 3rd summer coaching with us. Molly goes to school in Bracebridge. When she is not rowing, Molly is usually kickboxing, running or taking care of the animals on her farm. We are thrilled to have Molly back coaching for another season to add to our strong team.
Monte Wood
This is Monte's second year coaching with Hatchets Rowing Centre. He trains in the UK during the winter season and joins us in our competitive program in the summer. Monte is always smiling, very patient and a great coach. We hope you get a chance to get out rowing with him!
