Can you believe there’s less than two weeks left of summer rowing?! Check out how our rowers are taking advantage of these last few weeks together on the water!
Muskoka Poker Run!
The Muskoka Poker Run was this past Saturday! We had 13 rowers from different clubs all over Ontario! Rowers from the Muskoka Rowing Club, Hatchets Parry Sound, Orillia Rowing Club, and Georgian Bay Rowing Club joined our rowers from Hatchets Port Carling to row a 22km course out and around Tondern Island on Lake Muskoka. Rowers rowed both racing shells and open water shells and the weather was perfect for the long row! All rowers rowed in singles and stuck together in groups for the row along with safety boats! Great row everyone!
This Week!
This week’s Focus of the Week is Preventing Injuries!
Here are a few ways to prevent injuries in rowing:
1. Posture: Keep your back straight and strong through the whole stroke!
2. Square and Feather your oars with your thumbs and the muscles in your fingers and hands rather than than using your wrists!
3. Always warm up: Doing a warm up helps your body prepare for a workout by increasing your body’s core and muscle temperature.
4. Stretch your Hamstrings: Rowers often have really tight hamstrings (another reason why yoga is so great for rowers!)
As Promised — Check Out This Beginner Yoga Video Made Specially For Rowers!
Lindsey from Namast’ay Muskoka made this beginner yoga video specifically for our rowers at Hatchets this summer! The workout helps to stretch your hamstrings, improve your balance and stability in the boat, and strengthen your joints to help you get in and out of the boat more easily and gracefully!
She also provides breathing tips and techniques as well as many variations of each yoga pose that she demonstrates in the video! Awesome video! Definitely give it a try and let us know what you think!
