Summer 2022 Newsletter Week 4

How many beautiful sunrises have you rowed through this summer?  Check out this one that Graham captured from earlier this week!

This Weeks Focus is the Drive!

The drive is the part of the stroke after the catch where the blade has already been placed in the water and is driving the boat forward! Remember the drive starts with the LEGS, keeping the core strong and shoulders back, then the upper body leans back and finally the arms pull in strong! You might remember your coach saying over and over during your learn-to-row "LEGS - BODY - ARMS!"

Long Weekend Log Rolling Championship this Weekend!

Last week's winner: Graham

Runner up: Heidi

In last week's elimination-style log rolling competition, we started with our first match between the Hemington sisters - Piper and Heidi! Heidi took the lead and after Graham and Lily battled it out in the next elimination round, we were down to Graham and Heidi! They fought hard until finally, Graham stayed on the longest! Nice job log rollers!!

Next week's log rolling competition will be Saturday at 3 pm! We'd love to have anyone out who's log rolled before!

Hatchets Hat-Trick Weekend is Only 2 Weekends Away

REMEMBER we have three big events:

Muskoka Poker Run

A 22km race/row, open for both flat water and open water single rowing shells. It starts in Port Carling and follows the top of Lake Muskoka on a loop, finishing back in Port Carling.

Let us know if you think you might be up for it!

Indian River Relay - ALL ROWERS ARE WELCOME

This is our annual local regatta to bring rowers of all abilities together in a sprint relay race. Teams of 4 of mixed abilities are created on the day of the race from the registered rowers. Racing takes place in two touring singles, in which teammates take turns rowing 600m. The fastest team time for the day wins a big high five and the painting of their hand prints on the dock! Sign up here!

Row to Windermere

This is a long row where we begin and end in Port Carling. We start by rowing up through the locks in Port Carling, then we wind our way through many islands on Lake Rosseau to end up at Windermere beach for a rest, washroom break, and some refreshments.

If you think you might be up for this row - let us know or sign up here!

Reminder! Both Kathy and Lily will be away sporadically over the next few weeks, so if you need to contact one of us, feel free to message or call BOTH of us!
