And just like that we are at the end of the second week of summer! We’ve had many people doing some beautiful kms on the water and lots of people rowing for the first time! Thanks for sharing some magical on water time with us in the mornings.
This Week’s Focus was grip
Grip is the first thing we focus on once we’re able to move around on the water. Without proper grip, it is difficult to properly balance the boat, avoid injuries and get clean strokes to move the boat effectively through the water. Check out some of the details on our white board this week, and if anything doesn’t make sense - ask one our coaches while you are in!
Hatchets Leaderboard highlights
Distance Challenge
It’s not too late to join the distance challenge! This year we are using the Strava app to track our distances on the water. You DO NOT have to use the app, and you DO NOT have to row at Hatchets for kms to count. We just find the app easy and convenient. In the app you can manually enter rows after the fact, and you are welcome to track it on paper too. If you’d rather just write it down, just text or email me on Fridays before noon with your total so I can include you on the leaderboard! If you are using the app, you have to request to follow me (Kathy McCarthy, Port Carling, Ontario Canada) and I will add you to the challenge!
Right now we have 8 people that have officially joined the challenge, but I know quite a few of you are doing lots of kms on the water, so hopefully you’ll join in next week! In first place is Teresa Zacharias who purchased an Offshore 16 from Hatchets this year and is doing lots of rowing! This is a picture of Teresa in her new boat! I (Kathy) am working hard to keep up and just squeezed ahead of Haley on Friday…..I feel this will be short lived though next week. We are closely followed by Jeremy and Laurie who are closely followed by Peter, Robin and Lily! Keep it up!
Pull Up Challenge
We have unofficially opened the challenge for most amount of consecutive Chinups or Pullups. Test yourself while you are in. These must be witnessed and no jumping or halfway down allowed.
junior scullers’ fish game
The game is on for our junior scullers. Those 14 and under are welcome to record their score for the fish game on the leaderboard. Last year Robin held the top spot all season, but the season has just started - so when you are in, see if you can get your name on the board! If you don’t know what this fish game is, just ask us when you’re in and you can try it out!
PHOTO GALLERY
We are slowly adding to our photo gallery with lots of fun pictures from rowing this year and in past years. Most pictures are taken by our coaches on the water every week. If you take a great picture while you’re on the water, air drop it to us while you are in or email it to us at info@hatchetsrowing.com to have it posted in our gallery! Checkout the gallery HERE!
