2020 is shaping up to be a great rowing year for Hatchets grade 11 athlete Kennedy Burrows of Parry Sound High School. Last month Kennedy saw two indoor rowing regattas: the Canadian Indoor Rowing Championships in Mississauga on February 2nd, and the Ontario Indoor Rowing Championships at Ridley College in St Catharines, on February 29th.
After taking a year off of indoor racing Kennedy returned to racing with a vengeance placing third in a field of 37 with a time of 7:47.0. at the Canadian Indoor Rowing Championships. You can checkout the results online, or watch the race here. With a difference of only 0.3 seconds between Burrows and 2nd place, it is an exciting race to watch!
Three weeks later Kennedy took to the erg again to face off against a larger field of U19 (under 19) lightweight women. Kennedy started her race strong and improved her already personal best time from Canadian Indoors by 3 seconds, placing third with the time of 7:44.2.
Kennedy still has one year to go in this age category so watch for results next year in the same event.
Kennedy will be shifting to on water training as soon as the water is open at the Hatchets Parry Sound location training with her coach Marie Laforme. Well done Kennedy, we look forward to seeing you gear up to hit the water as soon as the ice melts.
