WINTER ROWING REGATTAS? WHY NOT!

With the new year practically upon us, it is the PERFECT time to start to get ready for some indoor rowing racing in 2018. These races are hosted all around the world, but for those in our area, there are two main races to attend.

At the Canadian Indoor Rowing Championships in Toronto held in February, typically just over 700 competitors between the ages of 6 and 76 race on rowing machines line up side by side at the Hershey Centre in Mississauga. There are individual events for all age ranges (2000m distance for most, but with a fun 100m race for those 13yrs and younger), parent offspring events, and even events for fours and eights. A month later, at the Ontario Ergometer Championships, another day of racing takes place at Ridley College School in St. Catharines. These are both really fun and exciting events, and a great reason to push yourself in winter training to make your coming on water season amazing. One nice thing about these events, is that your on water experience doesn't dictate how well you do in the race. You can train year round on rowing machines found at most local gyms, and it's a great predictable way to watch your fitness increase.

This coming year's events will soon be open for registration and they are planned to be on the following dates:
- Sunday February 4th, Canadian Indoor Rowing Championships, Hershey Centre, Mississauga
- Saturday March 3rd, Ontario Ergometer Championships, Ridley College School, St. Catharines

If this is something you're interested in, send us a quick email and we'll put you on our mailing list. Our next training plan will be coming out soon for January, and registration will be mid January for the Canadian Indoors!
