This week we were at our cottage on Georgian Bay that we rent out all the rest of the summer except this last week. The intention is to unwind after the summer, but this year, it is a week full of prep for our sailing in September. This week we had to troubleshoot some issues with our sail boat including a unknown leak that was filling the holds with water when it rained, an instrument panel that wasn’t working, replacing a solar fan and a general cleanup. Our friends Michael and Lily visited early in the week and they replaced the solar fan (after making a yellow robertson bit…) while we were troubleshooting water and wiring issues. The water was easy to find, as one of the scupper lines had come disconnected as it passes through the stern interior. Quick solution. The wiring took a bit more time but we eventually found a connection that had come loose and been sitting in the water after much tracing. We took the opportunity to clean the entire interior carefully and also clean and layout all the cushions so the boat is nice and fresh for the month ahead.
Mid week, we had Gavin’s friend Ben for a sleepover and he also helped us pick up our new (to us) 1993 VW Eurovan which we’ll be using for our May/June road trip!
Yesterday, with the boat all cleaned up, dry, running well and prepped, we started packing it up. Robin and Gavin loaded all the sleeping gear on the boat and carried down ALL of the non refrigerated food to store in the various holds and did all the sorting and arranging themselves.
This morning we baked some bread (which we likely won’t do much of for the next 4 months at least), went for a quick paddle board, and then we are heading into town for a few errands . We plan to do school work and leave today, but with no great mission for timing so that we can enjoy all the prep work we’ve done to be ready.
