Spring Rowing is Starting!
With May Flowers arriving in earnest, it is time to get on the water! The water has passed the 10 degree mark and is looking like it should pass 15 degrees before the May Long Weekend. 15 degrees celcius is our limit to allow people on the water without a coach boat directly beside them.
SPRING PROGRAMS
Our Junior Scullers (8-14yrs) and Fitness Rowing (Adults) programs are starting up right after the May Long weekend. Checkout our schedule online for both - using the links above. This year we are doing registration online, and then payment afterwards either by credit card, e-transfer or cash.
Our Learn to Row Programs have started. Once again they are 50% if booked and scheduled prior to June 30th. If you have a friend interested in rowing, let us know! If they sign up, you’ll earn a free class pass!
RESERVE A BOAT
New this year, we will be testing out reserving a boat in our Fitness Rowing classes. You’ll notice when you register that you can choose an “asset”. If you’re not sure, just let it choose and we’ll work it out as we go.
PRICING
As with everything else in life at the moment. We are having to raise our prices. In order to keep running the rowing centre, purchasing boats, paying our student coaches, paying mandatory sport association fees and for paying for insurance, we need to change our pricing. We have tried to keep it reasonable and offer options. If price alone is keeping you from rowing, please contact us and we can help you make it possible. Our new pricing is below, all prices are subject to HST.
Single Session: $30
6 Sessions: $168
12 Sessions: $312
Unlimited Spring Pass: $250
Unlimited Summer Pass: $500
Unlimited Spring/Summer Pass: $700
Kids 8-14 yrs: $20/session.
COACHING UPDATE
This year we are welcoming some new coaches who have been training to be ready, and saying goodbye to some other coaches.
Jeremy and Kathy will be coaching more than ever with their kids now being old enough to come and go on their bikes as they please! A whole new world.
Molly Curd and Marlowe Spraggett
These two are returning for their second seasons as coaches with us and we excited to see what they have in store this year. Last year they helped out with our weekly white board coaching tips, our snack nook with drinks and snacks, coaching all of our different lessons and lots of fun Junior Scullers adventures.
Lily Baker
After TEN summers of rowing and coaching with Hatchets. Lily has decided to take on a placement in New Brunswick in her field of Education. Though she has done different length placements for school, this is the first where she will miss the July and August rowing. Lucky for us, she will be around to row, coach and hang out for the last week of the summer season, so make sure you get in during this week to hear an update on how her summer went. For those of you who missed it, last year we dedicated our newest Mission 20/20 the “Water Lily” in Lily’s honour for many more reasons than just the amount of time she has spent with us. Anywhere you look at Duke’s you will see something that Lily has worked on. We are so excited to see what the coming seasons bring in Lily’s world.
Graham Yates-Krull
Graham started rowing with us as a competitive high school rower. We quickly became aware that Graham could learn ANYTHING quickly. Within a short time, he was helping out on the dock and around the rowing centre and it wasn’t long before we started bugging him to come and coach with us the next season. For the past three season’s Graham has been an amazing part of our team. Not only coaching at every level at our club, but also taking on lots of repair projects, helping out fixing things and diving for lost items. Graham finished high school last year and has entered the world of Aviation. On top of taking flight courses, he is also taking an Aviation Maintenance Engineer course. So, although he has promised to join us on the water on occasion this summer, I think he will be spending more time in the air!
Blake Steremberg and Monte Wood
Blake and Monte have rowed with us for two years, and last year you likely met them while they were volunteering with us. They came in every week in the summer to learn the ins and outs of Learn to Rows, Junior Scullers and Fitness Rowing classes. This year they are both joining the coach team and you will see a lot of them on the water! Welcome to Blake and Monte!
