INDIAN RIVER RELAY
This is our annual local regatta to bring rowers of all abilities together in a sprint relay race. ALL ROWERS (of all skill levels) ARE WELCOME! Teams of 4 of mixed abilities are created on the day of the race from the registered rowers. Racing takes place in two touring singles, in which teammates take turns rowing 600m. The fastest team time for the day wins a big high five and the painting of their hand prints on the dock! SIgn up in person or Sign up online here!
ROW TO WINDERMERE
This is a long row where we begin and end in Port Carling. We start by rowing up through the locks in Port Carling, then we wind our way through many islands on Lake Rosseau to end up at Windermere beach for a rest, washroom break, and some refreshments.
If you think you might be up for this row - sign up in person or sign up online here!
WEEKLY PHOTO UPDATES
Remember to keep checking out our photos which can be found at our website by navigating to ABOUT>PHOTO GALLERY. Here’s the link: https://www.hatchetsrowing.com/photo-gallery
We continue to add new photos every week so check them out! Here are a couple fun ones below.
This Week’s Focus is the Drive!
The drive is the part of the stroke after the catch where the blade has already been placed in the water and is driving the boat forward! Remember the drive starts with the LEGS, keeping the core strong and shoulders back, then the upper body leans back and finally the arms pull in strong! During the drive we want the blades to FLOAT at the height they are designed to, and out all our energy into horizontal motion through the water. During the Drive we are ACCELERATING the boat by using our big muscles first. LEGS, then BODY, then ARMS.
HATCHETS LEADERBOARD UPDATE
CHIN-UPS, FISH GAME, DISTANCE!
We’ve seen lots of jumps in the last week in all three areas on the leaderboard. Everyone’s chinup counts are increasing quickly and we expect you’ll need some good improvements this week if you want to stay in the top 10! I wonder if all top 10 will be over 10 by the end of the week?
Our Fish Game scores are getting competitive too! One of our new Learn to Row junior scullers took 3rd place after finishing the first row after her Learn to Row lessons.
In our Distance Rowing category, we have two of our rowers that have passed the 200km mark and a couple more will this week. Remember these are on water kms only, not on the erg.
