Summer 2023 Newsletter Week 3

It's the third week of summer already! We hope you're enjoying all the sun!

new Hatchets CHIN-UP/PULL-UP bar

The long-awaited Hatchets Chin-Up Bar has arrived! Feel free to do a few chin-ups or pull-ups as you come through the door - the perfect warm up for your row! Anyone can use the bar and the Top Ten will have their names and chin-up scores written on the Hatchets Leaderboard! The bar will be at Hatchets for the whole summer, so there is plenty of time to give it a try!

TOP 10 leaderboard

On the distance challenge side of things, this week saw some action. Laurie Campbell is still in the lead, but Debbie moved from 4th to 2nd place and now has 171km. This week we’ll see our rowers break the 200km mark for the season. Blake and Kathy are trying to stay on their heels and Monte is quickly catching up - breaking 100km this week (and that doesn’t include all the erg time!).

With the new chin-up bar installed (we’ll need to come up with a name for it), we now have some scores starting to go up, watch for some quick changes in the first couple weeks, I think the list is close to full as of today.

We had a new Junior Sculler join our ranks, congratulations Evan. He’s taken over 7th place in the fish game, and he’ll have to try to beat his score again on Friday when he’s in again.

Leaderboard results at the end of week 3.

This Week's Focus is The Catch!

This week's focus is the catch! The catch is the point when the oars are placed in the water before taking another stroke. Remember to keep your arms and back straight and strong, keep your heels as close to down as you can and let your blades DROP in the water - listen for the "plop" sound at the catch!

Friday Fun Day. Just wait until you see what we’re working on later this summer.
