This Week’s Focus was grip

Grip is one of the most important parts of rowing. This week was all about improving your grip when rowing!

When rowing, it is important to make sure your fingers act like hooks to allow you to transfer the force of your legs to your oar efficiently. This looks similar to the hand position when lifting grocery bags, doing a deadlift or doing a chin/pull-up. Imagining that your fingers are super-glued to the grip can help with positioning when squaring and feathering. Adding the plop drill and the stationary square and feather drills into your warm up can help to improve your grip!

Hatchets Leaderboard highlights

After week 1, Laurie Campbell led the Distance Challenge with 117 km, followed by Blake Steremberg with 109km and Kathy McCarthy with 90.5km.
